Back on Track

I have been a very bad blogger lately, but I'm putting aside some time this weekend to get back on track. I have lots of new pictures (and some older ones too) to edit and post, so I hope you'll bear with me.

This picture was taken in Lake Como over the summer. Sometimes it's refreshing to go back and edit old images with a new perspective.

Street Art: Jellyfish

It's no secret that I love jellyfish, so I was particularly excited to stumble upon this jellyfish street art in the East Village.

Lunch: Udon West

There are some spots in the East Village that always have at least 30 people waiting outside. Udon West is one of those establishments. When I walked past Udon West last weekend and amazingly did not see any line at all, I knew it was time to give the tiny Japanese noodle bar a try. The udon was authentic, filling and very well priced -- a great spot for a quick and delicious lunch.

Still Life: Bright Flowers

I picked up this Mason jar at Fishs Eddy a few weeks ago and knew I needed a simple bouquet of flowers for its inaugural use. If you have never been to Fishs Eddy, it's a must.I am already planning a return trip to pick up some of their huge half gallon Mason jars and quilted Ball jars.

Misty

Sometimes the least pleasant days yield the best photographic results. I took these pictures on a very gray and misty day and I'm loving their moody vibe.

Sometimes, it's all in the details. This intricate design is simply captivating.

One Hour In: The Lower East Side

Inspired by photographer Logan Cole, who recently limited himself to a single hour to capture life on the Vegas Strip, I am beginning a new project in which I photograph as many different neighbourhoods in New York City as I can, spending an hour in each. In some neighbourhoods, an hour might be plenty, in others, the time may not go as far. The focus will primarily be on NYC neighbourhoods, but there will no doubt will be some guest appearances of areas outside of New York.

Below are images from my first neighbourhood in this project, taken in the Lower East Side. The Lower East Side is a very unique, artsy area, with loads to capture. I ended up shooting these images in the early afternoon, and it was definitely a challenge to find open shade. Additionally, the lighting changed dramatically from street to street, so I was constantly adjusting my settings. Nonetheless, it was a great learning experience and certainly helped me further develop my skills.
